Goodness! 2020? What? It’s been years since I’ve came on and talked makeup!
Let’s get straight to it. My makeup artists: HOW ARE YALL DOING??? How are my fellow artists holding up? Are yall working? How have you changed your makeup protocol and procedures during Covid-19?
Makeup gigs was paused for me for about 3 months straight, and I just started working again back in late June. And now that everything is somewhat coming back to normalcy, I had to redo my whole kit to accommodate Covid-19 guidelines. Granted, I am a licensed cosmetologist, I was always very strict on sanitation even before Covid-19. (State board got me using quats for everything) How are yall sanitizing and updating your kits? I’m curios to know!
So this is what I’ve been doing….
Mask and latex gloves are a must. I even use hand sanitizer on the latex gloves before I start on a client. Before I do start, I try to tell my client to keep the talking to a minimum – probably one of the hardest rules for the client to oblige to! Just so that we can keep the germs to a minimum, especially when we’re up in their face.
I have a stainless steel palette and a stainless steel spatula that I use for every client. I scoop products out – so that I don’t ever cross contaminate products. No double dipping here. Disposable applicators are your best friend – lip applicators, mascara wands, sponges, etc. Lip liners and pencils – make sure you always sharpen them after use – that’s how you disinfect them. Powders: eyeshadows, blush, bronzers, compact powder – I spray with 91% rubbing alcohol after use. For my brushes, I clean them with Cinema Secret’s Makeup Brush Cleaner (pictured below). After that, I clean them with 91% rubbing alcohol!
I spray all my tools with 91% rubbing alcohol as well; scissors, tweezers, hair clips, etc. Be sure to soak them in quats when you get home.
Would love to hear how yall are updating your kits and what you are doing differently now! Let me know your thoughts!
XOXO
